Are we sometimes too quick to screen and treat cance...。三個小學生忽然對「死亡」感到好奇，結夥觀察附近的獨居老人，想知道他會怎麼死。老人最初對這三個小鬼頭很生氣，慢慢卸下心防後，四個人相處愉快，老人原本破落的家也因而煥然一新。老人逐漸說出許多深藏心中的秘密，包括戰爭時期曾結過婚也殺過人。小學生想盡辦法幫老人尋妻，卻遇到老人的孫女。一天，小學生踢完足球回家，赫然發現老人已氣絕多時。葬禮後，老人的院落井裡，竟飛出了蜻蜓、蝴蝶，彷彿老人與這世界做正式道別 。。故事开始于１９７６年的夏天，当人们沉浸在伟人逝世的悲痛中时，牛红梅(蒋勤勤饰)的父亲突然失踪，母亲何碧雪(赵奎娥饰)为全家生计改嫁金大印(张京生饰)。青春、靓丽的牛红梅一人担起家庭重担，与两个弟弟在失去父爱的天空下相互依偎。其间，她经历了初恋、被强暴、情感绝望、婚姻陷阱、几度怀孕流产、爱情轮回……最终在弟弟寻父归来、一家人团聚的喜庆中，迎来了新的生活。。
