本片是张彻早期执导之黄梅调作品，故事讲述，江夏县令之子田玉川（金峰）为渔家女胡凤莲（丁红）之父抱不平，误杀总督卢林（井淼）之子惹祸。玉川逃至江边，走投无路，幸遇凤莲搭救，二人相对终宵，情愫渐生，玉川以传家之宝蝴蝶杯相赠，订下终身之约...。"Daughters of the Dust" tells the story of a family of African-Americans who have lived for many years on a Southern offshore island, and of how they come together one day in 1902 to celebrate their ancestors before some of them leave for the North. The film is narrated by an unborn child, and ancestors already dead also seem to be as present as the living.。
