抗日战争时期，重庆成为陪都，四川成为大后方。国民党中央势力的入川，引起各类矛盾的复杂化和激烈化川外各阶层人士蜂拥入川，亦引起不同文化的碰撞与融合。醉仙楼更替了主人。驻扎本地的川军李师长成为醉仙楼的后台老板，支持同他关系暖昧的阮秋萍，把醉仙楼变成了烟花风月的青楼。李师长不仅以此赚钱，更把这里当作拉拢权势人物的地方。阮秋萍戏花旦出身，被迫委身与李师长，特殊的境遇把她造就成为一个性格复杂的人物。虽出没污泥之中，爱国之心和善良之心并未泯灭。因而她的言行往往充满矛盾，她的举动往往同初衷相悖，造成许多喜剧性的情境。。One day, thinking that it will make your wife and friends smile, you shave off the moustache that you have had for the last ten years. Viewers who like their conclusions tidy may rebel, but those who relish outstanding performances in the service of an intriguing idea will be entertained.
